Quinta da Pedra Alta, 10yr Tawny Port
Quinta da Pedra Alta is a historic Douro estate perched in the Pinhão Valley, steeped in the region’s port-making heritage. It maintains 35ha of vines across varied altitudes (230–550 m) and works with traditional Portuguese grapes. The team combines respect for tradition: granite lagares, wild-yeast ferments, and Douro’s schist-rich terroir, with modern care, making wines that reflect both place and history. Deep mahogany-amber hue with glints of burnt sienna. On the nose: dried fig, date, toasted walnut, caramel, and cedar spice, layered with a background of dark chocolate and a hint of orange-zest. The palate reveals rich stewed plum and raisin, molasses-like depth, cinnamon and clove. The texture is smooth and velvety, with a lingering, slightly nutty-sweet finish and mellow, integrated acidity. Ideal as a contemplative after-dinner pour, especially with nutty cheeses, dark-chocolate desserts, or almond biscotti.
